THE NAHYSOSA BURSARY FUND

HOME / THE NAHYSOSA BURSARY FUND

As of 31 Dec 2007, NAHYSOSA has granted bursaries to the value of over R590,000 and has assisted in the tertiary education of: Commerce Students, Science Students, Law Students, Medical Students, and Students in the Arts and other professions. Education is the process by which we acquire knowledge, skills, habits, values, attitude and it influences the way we think. Education is the pillar of strength in our youth today and each individual should be given an equal opportunity to take advantage of it.

The NAHYSOSA Bursary Fund was established in 1998. It embodies all that NAHYSOSA stands for and enables NAHYSOSA to give back to the Hellenic Community that it so crucially depends on. It is also a means of protecting the interests of the Hellenic Youth of South Africaand their future. As Hellenes, we understand how important our education in developing an appreciation for our cultural heritage and ethos.

Funds for the Bursary Fund are accumulated from NAHYSOSA, and NAHYSOSA Affiliate, functions that occur throughout the year. The bulk of all income raised is used specifically for the Bursary Fund or the Andoni Yerou Medical Assistance Initiave (established in 2003). This means that having well-supported functions is key to our success, not only to unite Hellenes, but to helping less fortunate Hellenic Youths.

Applicants for the Bursary Fund must meet the following requirements:

  1. Applicants must be of Hellenic Origin.
  2. Applicants must be financially disadvantaged.
  3. Applicants must be presently studying at / applying to study at a recognised tertiary education institution in South Africa.
  4. Applicants must be, or have been, willing to be actively involved within the Hellenic Community.

All applicants undergo an interview with an independent selection panel. The members of this panel are not on any committee and each application is treated with the strictest confidentiality.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and the Hellenic Community, at large, for their support of our functions. We also wish to thank all the individuals who selflessly give of their time and energy to provide a better tomorrow for those less-privileged.
